Question:
Any suggestions for natural remedies, exercises etc?
Answer:
Someone here suggested the Bach Nature's Rescue Remedy to me and it's
great! I am really pleased with it.
Wild yam cream can help even if you're not in the perimeno age group.
ExStress is a formula that's helped me in the past but with the two above
I haven't really needed it - plus I'm taking something with skullcap and
kava in it.
Can you be a little more specific about these attacks? When they started
for example?
I seem to remember reading an article in American Family Physician a few
years ago about panic attacks in young women. Apparently some young women
with panic attacks received pretty fair relief by adding additional table
salt to their diets and drinking plenty of water. Just like some people
are sensitive to too much salt in their diets and suffer from high blood
pressure, some young people may be sensitive to a lack of salt and suffer
from dehydration, transient low blood pressure and a reflex sympathetic
reaction. Anyway, it seems like a cheap and safe experiment to try.
Many people (including most regular medical doctors!) do not realize the
fact that intolerances to certain foods and environmental factors can
cause anxiety symptons and quite extreme panic attacks. With panic
attacks and anxiety, it is always a good policy to rule out the
possibility of food intolerances and hypoglycemia first. My clinic
specialises in these treatments. A brochure on food intolerances and
allergies is available via email for those interested in finding out
more.
1. There's a place down in San Antonio (I think it's called the Pain &
Stress Center) that markets a very good (in my opinion) anti-anxiety
capsule called Anxiety Control. It's got GABA, magnesium, glycine, B6,
some passiflora herb, and a few other ingredients that don't immediately
come to mind. Excellent product, especially if you're not into xanax or
valium. In times of strong anxiety, I take 1 or 2 capsules, 3x a day.
Call San Antonio information to get the 800 number for the Pain and
Stress Center.
2. You might look into using (either with the above product or instead
of it) Kava Kava herb, which is an anti-anxiety herb. Read up on it; you
don't want to over-use it. If it were me, I'd try Nature's Herbs (I
*think* that's the brand, you'd have to double check) Herbal Actives
formula, one three times a day. I only say that brand because it's got
the same amount of active Kava Kava ingredient recommended in Michael
Murray, N.D.'s book, "Natural Alternatives to Prozac." Maybe any brand
would be the same, I don't know.
I'm not a doctor, so I can't say whether the above suggestions are right
for you. I speak only from personal experience with panic attacks and
anxiety in general, and these are the only two alternative products that
I've personally found useful. In addition, I'd think that Yoga or
meditation would be helpful.
